As a state senator, Delaware’s Congresswoman McBride helped pass laws to improve health care, add mental health and media literacy education in schools, support green technology, and protect workers and families.
One of her biggest achievements was passing the Healthy Delaware Families Act, which gave workers in Delaware paid family and medical leave. This was the biggest improvement to the state’s social safety net in decades.
In her last term, she led the Protect Medicaid Act of 2024, which increased Medicaid funding by $175 million per year. This helped ensure better health coverage for nearly 200,000 Delaware residents. The bill received support from both parties and passed unanimously.

Before becoming a state senator, McBride helped pass a major anti-discrimination law in Delaware. For her efforts, Governor Markell awarded her the Order of the First State, Delaware’s highest civilian honor.
